My wife and I are going to be adopting an 8 month old baby from someone we know.
The baby was born in Arizona 4 months ago, and the mother is bringing her to us in Minnesota in a few days.
Since the mother is moving up here with the child before we get custody, do we need to go through any legal procedures in Arizona, or can it all take place in Minnesota?

This depends on two things..

1. Where the bio father is in all this..
2. The residency laws of adoption procedures in MN. She may have to live in MN a certain length of time before being able to place the child up for adoption.

Here is some bed time reading..

Regarding point 1.. it will not give you piece of mind if she is just stating the father is unknown. If after the adoption takes place, the man finds out that he fathered a child, then he could petition to over turn any adoption that took place without his consent. Just be aware of this... (this is why many people turn to foreign agencies to adopt children.. ie, no chance of someone coming and contesting the adoption).

Good Luck.
