In Tn, preparing to file suit for violations of my 14th amendment rights. What is the statute of limitations? My now dismissed attorney told me it was 1 year, the same as personal injury in this state yet I read other places it is 2 years. Is the statute different from state to federal?

If you are filing for a violation of the 14th Amend you are filing under federal law. However, Section 1983 does not have a statute of limitations written into it, so the federal courts use the statute of limitations from the forum state. (i.e. the state the incident occurred) If the lawyer told you one year than I would go with one year.
