What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? NY

How may years is it required, if any, to maintain sales and service records on home appliances? I wanted to know how old a refrigerator I inherited was. I called the appliance store where my mother bought it, probably 15 to 20 years ago, but was told they only keep records for 7 years. Is that legal? Do I have any other recourse in finding this information?

Contact the mfg directly using the serial number.

ETA: Oh, to answer your question...they don't have to keep those sorts of records for 15-20 years.

There is no statutory obligation for the business to keep any records for you.
