What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? TX

I need help. I have looked online and spoken with a few people and get conflicting information. My 19 month old son's father has had nothing to do with him ever, and is willing to give up his rights. When my son was 5 months old, I met Mr. Wonderful. We got married in March of this year and are wanting to proceed with a step parent adoption in texas. We would like to know what paperwork we need to file to get it started, and if we have to be married for 2 years like some states require. Also I was told my child had to be 2 years old before this could happen. Some say you do not have to have a case/social study done for a step-parent adoption. Some have said you uhave to have an attorney and it will cost around 1200.00 some say you can do it yourself. I need to know what the rules are and what we have to do and go through so that my loving husband can legally be the awesome father he already is to my son...also, we are expecting son # 2! :-) Thanks in advance for any legal advice you have to give! The "real dad" has started giving us a hard time with harassing emails and threats wanting to get this off his hands ASAP, so the sooner the better!

get an attorney. Adoption is NEVER a DIY project. There are too many t's to cross and i's to dot to risk it being overturned years down the road because you screwed something silly up.

If dad is in agreement, it should not be that costly. The costs of having an atty prepare it and get it filed.

Get a free consult with an adoption atty (most will do 15-30 min phone consults for free). They can tell you any specific laws for your state.
