step-parent adoption

I am in the legal process of having my daughters name changed to mine which is working out fine just about done my question is this me and my boyfriend of 4 years are planning on getting married can i change the name to his last name before marrage and if so does that give him any rights and her to him he has raised her since she was 2 or would i still have to have him adopt her even with given her his last name he is her god father by all rights

He will ahve no rights unless his name is on the birth certificate, or he has adopted her.

How can you keep changing your child's name? This has got to be very confusing for her.

swthoss: i was raped when i was married the first time when i got divorced he chose not to have anything to do with her so we took his name off and she wanted my last name not my exhusbands and it is confusing but i have a very open honest relationship with my children we talk about everything so she is excited
