My husband wants to adopt my daughter. The natural father does not have anything to do with her, but the state of Kansas garnishes child support from his wages (when he actually works, or is not in jail). The natural father has had no interest in contacting her in over 9 years. Do we need an attorney? Or can we prove him an unfit father and go through the step parent adoption without the natural fathers' consent?
