My son age 14 is from a previous marriage, But my present husband has been taking care of him since he was 3 yrs old.
My husband had a problem admitting my son in the hospital because he is the "step-father" this has never happened before. But I would like to know what we need to do so the next time there is an emergency he can admit him with no problems. sons biological father is in Arizona and we have joint custody. We are in Illinois. Does my husband need to have guardianship? or what can we do????

Your husband needs to carry a card in his wallet that states he has the right to seek neccessary medical care for your son and sign it. This will act much in the same way schools or care givers pemissions slips. Easy cheap solution probably worth the hassel.
