I am a single father with full custody of my four year old son and Im engaged to be married to a woman with a five year old daughter. We allready know that there won't be any problems with me adopting her daughter as the father has no contact and won't contest. However my sons mother abandoned him after losing custody two years ago. She has no visitational rights and hasn't attempted to see him in almost two years. Do I have to notify her of our plans? She abandoned and abused our child and has no custodial or visitational rights, I also wouldn't begin to know where she is because I haven't seen or heard from her in two years. What are the laws in New York regarding these matters?
