We live in California. My husband wants to adopt my 3 year old daughter. I was never married to her biological father and he has never been a part of her life. He is not on the birth certificate. He is currently in prison in Texas and I wrote him a letter asking if he would allow my husband to adopt my daughter and he wrote me back stating that he would allow the adoption. Can we now proceed with the adoption without contacting him again? Or does he still have to sign something?

You should have an attorney draw up the papers. Yes he will need to sign more and need to be contacted again. Believe me when I tell you that doing this without an attorney would be dangerous in the long run.
