Still need civil pre-trial help in AL

What is the name of your state? AL

I won a Judgment for $1660 in small claims (actual damages were over $5K, but I didn't want/couldn't afford to hire a lawyer so I went Pro Se and won). Defendant had an attorney even though it was small claims. Anyway, I won...then his lawyer files a Motion to Reconsider...which was denied.

Now, they have filed an appeal for civil court. It is for 6/25/08.

Can somebody advise me of the following?

Is it stupid to not have an attorney in civil court? I have very little money as I am 63, 100%disabled from VietNam service and living on a fixed income. I realize it is smart to have one so I don't get destroyed by procedure, but it's crazy to spend thousands I don't have to win a judgment I may never collect on .

Do I need to show opposing counsel copies of all materials that I will place as evidence in court? Do I have to submit this material along with a list of expert witnesses I will have in court? This should be given to them prior to court, right?

Are there any pro bono services available to a person in my position?

Thanks for your help and advice.
