I am the executive director of a training and economic agency in west virginia. i set up a company email address, myself and two staff members know the password. i used it to talk with my board members. today i learned that all of my email messages had been copied, given to another agency, and that agency mailed them out to other agencies and individuals. the other agency director said they magically appeared on her desk. these are private communciations addressed to specific individuals and a lot of private information between myself and my board is now in the hands of many. either one of my staff copied them and gave them to the director or the agency entered our password and copied them themselves. i can not find any laws on email theft or privacy. is it illegal for someone to enter someone else's email, print them, and distribute them. any help would be very much appricated. this other agency is trying to destroy our agency and get our contracts cancelled. the other agency also operates under federal and state funds, didn't know if this would make a difference.

It is an invasion of privacy and depending on where it goes, it can be a federal violation. Many computer crimes and email crimes are starting to see their way into state law, as well.
