What is the name of your state?What is the name of your state? Florida

I'm salaried. Auditer/inventory.

Extensive travel with hours usually over 70 a week. No compensation for travel --- per diem 15$ a day.

Boss placed a "Stop Payment" on my check. I never officially quit from position. Boss is overseas and I was to travel over to meet for work. ....obviously I did not and boss is extremely pee'd. I no longer work for company. Wife can not pay daycare costs (seperated).

Paycheck was for work already performed.

I think I am Exempt.... for what its worth. Some of us have to work for cheap scumbags like this because there isn't a lot out there. It's a shame we give give give, but get the screws screws screws.

I've worked for this company for 6 months. I have given weekends and have stepped forward to help in any way (including moving personal furniture from boss's home).

After contacting boss about stop payment on check his response was "I stopped payment because it was a chicken-sh$t way to quit".

Later I received a voice msg again slandering me and stating he was going to calculate what I owe him but wouldn't do it until he arrived back in the states.

I am contemplating also seeking funds not paid for first two days of training. Boss later told me after that first week (but before receiving payment) that he was not going to pay me due to me "not making him any money those two days."

If your employer is refusing to pay your wages/salary for time worked, then contact Florida's Department of Labor and file a complaint. In FL, the DOL is titled the Department of Workforce Innovation.

<UPDATE>

Contacted Florida Workforce Innovation Department and was directed to contact my local US Dept of Labor office (Jacksonville).

Received call back and was completely amazed by this person! I explained my situation (boss put stop payment on my two week paycheck in which I already worked the hours) and she told me the USDOL could NOT make him pay.

I was astonished that I have basically no rights here (according to her). I thought maybe she misunderstood my situation so I rehashed it again and that is when she sarcastically stated, "Do you know the law?". ugggg... nothing like getting slapped in the face by a govt' worker when seeking help!

I just can't believe what this lady is telling me. He doesn't have to pay for the hours I worked?????? My Mother, a human resourse manager in Philly, believes she is in error. I just don't know... I do know he isn't going to pay if she goes in armed with the attitude she displayed to me.

FREAK man... I've got to have some kind of rights here?

I believe she is in error too. Call back and speak to someone else. If you get the same response, ask to speak to a supervisor.
