We must go to court because we were late on 5 support payments for a valid reason. This is simply a harrassment case. How can I present this to a judge in court without looking like a "deadbeat" parent. We owe her NOTHING and have always paid. She wants wages witheld. (state of Va.)

Thank you
Soph

It's very normal to have wages garnished when you are obligated to pay child support. If you are late making your payments, the custodial parent can opt to have the child support garnished; and that is what appears to be happening in your case. Most likely, child support will now be garnished from all future/existing paychecks.

All it takes is for the non custodial parent to be late or behind on a couple payments...And they can be taken in for garnishment.

Rent, utilities etc are all due on a certain date. There are no exceptions to this. So why do you think it is ok to be late in paying CS ? People rely on CS to pay bills. Without this money they can not pay bills.

Look at it this way, if you worked your butt off doing 60 hours one week and your company then tells you they can not pay you, yet. Are you happy about this ? Why is CS any different ?

The only way to deal with people in these cases is to never give them reason to take you to court in the first place.
