I'll be interested in the answers you get. The last time I tried to find a defense attorney like this I was told that most defense attorneys were employed by companies because most plaintiff attorneys would not work on a defense case because they didn't want that reputation...

You could talk to the lawyer that your insurance company is assigning you. Depending on the strength of the case, you may not even need another lawyer.

I hate to be the one to state the obvious...you might want to consider slightly higher liability limits. My renter's insurance policy came standard with $1M of liability coverage (and, honestly, insurance companies consider those w/too little insurance a higher risk, so the extra coverage should cost little to nothing).

my insurance had already told me that if they sue for more than what i am covered for, i need a lawyer.

i was served with the papers today, and can't stop shaking over this. that's why i am anxious to search for a lawyer now .. i just feel like i have to do something .. but like i said, i don't even now what practice area i should be looking for. if i go to one of these lawyer referral websites, what practice area should i select? I can't wait until monday!

The FIRST thing you need to do is report the suit to your insurance company, and let them assign you a lawyer. Talk to that lawyer for advice on finding your own.
