I work for a company, HQ in Maryland. I work in Florida. The customer's company HQ is in Miami, FL. The Parent Compoany is in London. This guy from Miami is not an american citizen, he is from Ireland.
One of our customers is the Miami company. A manager there hates my guts. He has a history of harassing our company, making demands, causing trouble, has been trying to create havoc all around. Bad mouths my company, especially in front of his colleagues on ships. I agreed with him once to appease him and try to make friends, so I bad mouthed our company too, and said we are getting better, that corporate has a bunch of idiots but our office in Fort Laud. is very professional. I also agreed with him about one of our products, that it was crap. I know I was wrong for saying this, but...I was trying to make him a friend by agreeing with him. After the other day when I was on one of his ships doing an installation with other guys from my company (who said i did nothing wrong) this manager from miami was at it again in the radio room in front of some of his officers bad mouthing and making fun of our company and product, when we are putting this very product on his ship as a new installation, and he is one of the decision makers who would have chosen this product... we have a contract with the miami company for 3 years.. that either party could break, and the miami company wants out of it...in any case, I felt he was harassing me, embarassing me in front of these people, putting our company and product down, just when it was all important to have the cooperation from the officers on the ship and it pissed me off and i wrote an internal company email about his "slanderous" and "counterproductive" carryings on, and this guy from our corporate who hates me ( in next paragraph i tell about him) obviously leaked this to the manger from the miami company and i beleive this is what sparked his banning from his ships. This guy from corporate also leaked again to him when the sales manager mentioned that he hoped i would be allowed back on the miami company's ships after this guy leaves and goes to london to the corporate hq of the parent company. He leaked that to him and he wrote another email saying i will not be allowed on their ships even after he is gone.
Now, the guy at our corporate who also hates me.. he is a screw up and has a big and awfully important sounding mouth and has impressed and snowed a lot of people up there.. everything he touches is messed up one way or another. We are in a technical field, and his "projects" fall short every time.. I've had to look bad on several occasions because of his lack of planning and lack of thoroughness. Throughout the years, he knows he doesn't snow me and I know he is useless.. he knows it... my colleagues know it too..
Well, he and this guy from the miami company are best buddies, and have recently gotten together to try to ruin me. The miami company manager wrote an email saying I am not allowed on his ships ever again. I am barred from his ships. He does this his last week at the miami company, before his move to the parent company in london.
His antics have made my life miserable lately, causing much grief, mental anguish, stress to the max.. alarming myself, my wife, my boss and his boss. I have explained what happened and that I did nothing to warrant being barred from his ships... his reasons include me bad mouthing the company, me harassing him, me insisting on something... i could give you the exact reasons he gave... he said it was "fruitless to explain all the problems he has had with" me. In any case, he may get me fired, although It looks like I am too valuable to the company for them to fire me. I am moving on soon hopefully to a different cruise line (by the way, we are a provider of services for the cruise line, a vendor. Since he has barred me, and the guy from our company made sure the manager sent another letter stating that after he leaves the miami company I will still not be allowed on any of their ships.
So, after all of this story, my question is:
Can I sue the miami cruise line company, or the parent company in london for all of this **** this little ******* has put me through? He may yet get me fired, as the miami company has 8 ships, our other customer has 4, and the other has 1 (so far) so as u see, the miami company customer is our largest customer, and if I am not allowed on their ships, this makes me alot less valuable to my company I'm sure, even though they haven't said this.
By the way, this all happened last week, the last week in March. Today is April 1st. 2001.
So, can I sue? Defamation of character, mental anguish, stress, possible loss of employment, loss of wages... definately loss of wages, as I was supposed to sail on one of their ships next week, and I would have made a lot of money in overtime, but now, since I am not allowed, and am not going on the ship to do the installation, I am losing money. And in the future, when I would have worked on their ships, many times I would have gotten overtime... that can amount to lots of extra money.
