I got a summary offense 2 months ago for retail theft... I completed community service and a diversion class. the charges were dismissed and there was no conviction. i am going to college next year, am 18, and am worried that this dumb mistake that i made will ruin the rest of my life. i do not have the money to get an expungement. i am very sorry for what i did. i just need some advice. thank you

First off, summary offenses are not kept on your criminal record. Second the charges were dropped. Third under PA law if you participate in the diversion program you can have it expunged(it's actually very cheap to do it yourself, simply petition the court of common pleas in your county. Someone there should be able to explain the form to you). But under your circumstance expungment would be a waste of time. I would'nt worry. Just stay out of trouble from now on and you'll be set.
