What is the name of your state? MD

Can someone tell me why the CSEA sends out a summons when you file for child support?

I thought just a hearing was scheduled??

the case is new.

The woman at CSEA said my ex will be served a summons and has 30 days to respond to it. I was surprised.
The summons to tell her she has a hearing makes sense, I don't get the 'respond' portion of it.

I just thought you had a hearing, and the support was based on income and overnights as the state calculator shows.

Maybe the woman was confused? I'll call Monday and ask again. I just filed today.

It is a complaint. A complaint asking for child support. It is all part of due process. The woman was not wrong. You are. You are allowed to respond protesting the hearing.

Thank you OhioGal. I tried looking for it at the CSEA web sites. They don't have anything concerning the 'process', just how you file, how you calculate and how you collect.

She has problems again right now. Another few warrants out for her that are over 2 weeks old. (FTA and VOP) I doubt the summons will be served for CS. Her mother is not saying where she is, I haven't heard from her since the end of January. No calls or cards for lil ms. princess ... no contact at all.

If the summons is not delivered in this county, they send it back to the courthouse. At least that is what I was told.

What happens then, do I have to follow up on things once she has resolved her 'other' problems? Or does CSEA follow up?

thanks again for your time.

That's one of the wonderful things about our country. Everyone has the right to be informed of any court actions and everyone has the right to respond to any actions. That's why the person being served has so many days in which to respond. It is a law that is applied equally to everyone.
