I have a issue and think my civil rights are being violated . I am am in treatment on my own will. I am not on probation or court ordered or have problems with the law . I have issues with anyone being in the restroom with me while I pee.. Due to past sexual abuse .. And the staff is all female and they do not supervise the men when the do there UA'S .just make them empty out their pockets . The only person I have to be accountable to is myself....so they state if they do not go into the bathroom with me it wil be a automatic positive reading in the books and logs... ... Can they do that ... Change the rules for the guys cause of no male councillors .. And it's not because I'm doing drugs . I can't even pee in front of my husband . I'm afraid that they will report a positive test to DHS AND then they will get involved .. And my to girls will be put into the system... Please any information or direction on who to talk to about this is appreciated in advance .. Thank you.. I am in iowa and I'm 32 years old.

When you admitted yourself to the program where you told about this?

How do you know for certain the men aren't being monitored as well?

I was but told them that I was not comfortable with it and will not be able to do it I am it is not inpatient treatment is outpatient treatment and I know that they don't order the men because they said that they didn't have any female counselors except for one gentleman that comes maybe once a month man when he's down there he will one of them and only then I've seen them give multiple tests to men who they said to just empty out your pockets they don't get Pat down and it going by himself they told me that they will be considered a positive test if they were not able to supervise and go inside problem is is I don't care about the test I I am clean and have no problem giving a urine sample but I'm not able to peeinfront of anyone... I just can't I'm afraid that they were classified as a positive test and blue Toby to DHS and have my children taken away

What did the people working in the program say when you asked them your questions? You're not the first (nor the last) to have problems urinating in front of others.

Szymarek, at the end of my post is a link to the International Paruresis Association's Frequently Asked Questions. Look at the answers to the following questions asked on the site:

Q. I'm facing a urine test for employment. What can I do?
Q. I'm a woman. Is there anything different about paruresis for women to know?
Q. I've lost my job (or employment offer) due to being unable to provide a urine sample. What can I do?

The answers from the International Paruresis Association will provide you with some good advice and direction on how to handle the issue you face at your workplace.
