What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Illinois

My husband I used an agency to conceive twins under contract via an egg donor and a surrogate (surrogate is non-egg donor) in India. Both reliquished rights and we just got the twins home now in Illinois.

Under US law, only the biological parent (my spouse) could have his name on their birth certicates and on the Report Birth Abroad documents. I must legally adopt the children for guardianship.

This is uncontested adoption and would like to know if this is this something we can do on our own since we have all the documentaion and it is uncontested, with no other legal parent involved? I was told we simply have to file the correct forms with local probate. Also, would this qualify for the adoption tax credit?

You NEED an attorney. Period. I am VERY surprised that you didn't retain one BEFORE going down this road...
