i recently received a ticket for driving while license suspended in florida. I and a friend were seated in the drivers seat of a parked car and had been for some time when the police drove up to my car searchlights glaring in my face and all and demanded my license. i told them i didn't have it with me. so they asked my name and b-date to which i obeyed there demands. the officer then called in my info..and ran a background check on me and discovered my license was suspended (of which i was unaware)....the officer then said that the park my car was in closed at 10:00pm but it was only 9:50pm. my questions are this....don't i have to be OBSERVED driving the vehicle in order for the state to cite me??? can the police approach someone not in violation of any law and demand info for the purpose of running background checks?? do i have any legal footing to contest this citation...or do i have nothing and it's best just to pay the fine and not bother fighting...please help!!! thank you
