I am a Wisconsin resident and six year ago I received a speeding ticket in the state of Florida. I didn't pay the fine under the advice of a WI police officer I knew. He said that the fine would be off the books in five years. I recently received a letter saying that if I didn't pay the fine I would have my license suspended. Can they do that?
What kind of penalties could I get for not paying the fine? It's been six years since I got the fine and this is the first notice I have received regarding the ticket.

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

The officer was wrong and you probably face some heavy fines. Ignorance of the law is no excuse BUT if you really want to save your hide, read the link I give you below and name the officer who gave you this bad advice when you go to court.
