Hi,

I am wondering if it is legal to take classified ads from a magazine/newspaper and put them onto a website of my own. This would, in theory, help the seller as they'd reach a wider audience.

However, is it illegal because I would be putting their ad (and details) on the internet, where as they only wanted their information to be in the magazine or newspaper?

Thank you in advance for any replies!

What's in it for you?

If I was going to go in this direction with the website, it would be purely from advertising revenue. I was thinking of possibly contacting the seller if there's a buyer interested (and then they'd pay a fee to me - obviously this way I'd need to hide their contact details from the public) but I think that would be too complicated.

I would just merely be taking their ad, sticking it on the web and that's it.

**A: then you would be acting as middle man correct? ebay, amazon and many others are already using the middle man scenario.

If I went down the route of contacting the seller I guess would be a middle man, but by just listing the ad on the website I'm not really a middle man...or am I?

With eBay and Amazon though, the sellers go to that site and specifically put their product on that site. I would be taking an advert from a magazine/newspaper and would put it on the internet.

I made a correction for you:cool:

Haha, it's not really stealing seeing as what I'm doing is good for the seller, but I thought there would be some kind of legal implication. Thanks.

So can I steal cigarettes from people seeing as what I'm doing is good for the smoker?

Haha, yes it is. The newspaper or magazine owns the copyrights to whatever is in their publications so you stealing it really is stealing it.
