What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? VA if needed.

Background: 2 children, divorced over 13 years. Court order states oldest child I claim, youngest child Dad claims.

Youngest child turned 18 in Spring, graduated High school late spring, is in college since late summer.

Question, this year, since child has aged out of court order in June, in fullness, including graduation of high school, can I claim this child this year

Child was only a minor for 4 months of that time period.

LD what is the new rules on 8332 (I believe that is the correct number)

it is the 8332. you have to sign it off as far as the IRS goes. i think i remmeber her saying the IRS had hired a few thousand auditors to make sure that dependant children were being claimed properly.

in this case, the child lives with you. so the signing off would be a family court issue. in which case, it's dad's year.
