i am the mother of a 17 year old female & was denied medical information from her gynecologist stating that her permission was necessary as it was a violation of "her confidentially" to do so without her permission.we live in Tennessee & i was stunned as i am not only her mother but i am a nurse & have never heard of such a thing. as i stated she is a minor & I pay the bills. i have never signed any consent forms with this m.d. nor was i ever informed of "their practice policy". i am afraid that this policy is not only unlawful but detrimental to the health & well being of many teenagers. if one of these children were diagnosed with a std they could well be embarrassed to the point of not returning as a "identified patient" or worse go into denial ... the test results were wrong or the disease would simply go away! with parental knowledge the child would surely be steered into proper medical treatment with love & understanding. If anyone could shed some legal light on this situation I would be thankful!
