I have only been married for less than 2 years and my husband has abandoned me and my children. He has stopped paying the bills and does not even help by giving money for diapers or food.
I am in the process of filing for divorce but am on a waiting list because I am going through a free agency. My husband has been abusive and I have already filed for a restraining order.
What I would like to know is do you think a judge would grant temporary rehabilative alimony until I get a better paying job.
My income is only amounting to around 500.00 and the bills total over 1100.00. Not to mention there is no legal seperation and he is just signing all bills over to my responsibility which I cannot even begin paying until I have started working making more money.
Someone out there please give me some advice.

If the children are his, you'll get child support money.

If there is a great disparity in income, you might get maintenance.

But because your marriage was pretty short and because you didn't say anything about being unable to work, it's not likely you would get maintenance.

Now, you probably could get a court to order him to help you w/the rent, utilities, etc., while the divorce is pending, but the chance of getting maintenance in Indiana is pretty small.....

Of course, you didn't mention what state you're from, which would have been helpful.
