divorced from 15 year old son's dad in 1988. remarried and live in tennessee since 1989. violence between ex and current husband. son wishes for current husband to adopt him. i know my ex will have a cow and cause trouble. he hasn't seen our son for 12 years and just recently caught up on child support. now is harrassing me again. no final custody agreement on file from pa because when we moved to tennessee, no one concerned lived in pa. they dropped jurisdiction. what will be involved in this?

I am a law school graduate. What I offer is mere information, not to be construed as forming an attorney client relationship.

You need to have his parental rights terminated (i.e. he either voluntarily signs away his rights) or you go to court and see if you can get it done that way via an abandonment argument (haven't seen him in 12 years). Child Support and Child Custody/visitation are seen as two different things in the court's eyes.

So...get yourself a family law attorney and start there. http://www.attorneypages.com
