What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? Texas

Laid off on Monday. Company has offered to pay me a final paycheck on October 14, meaning I'll be paid for the next two weeks as "wages in lieu of notice". After that, 8 weeks of severance kicks in, with four severance payment being paid to me once every two weeks.

My question is - at one point in all of this can I claim unemployment?

1) Immediately?
2) Once the initial two weeks "lieu of notice" is over?
3) Only after severance has all been paid?

Thanks for any assistance.

What she needs to do is file at once for the unemployment benefits. She needs to tell them exactly what amount of severance she is receiving, provide the information she was given by the company. They will set up her claim monetarily and will explain to her exactly when she can begin receiving weekly benefits according to Texas unemployment law. In some states whether it is severance or "wages in lieu" would make a difference. In some states, her benefits may be delayed, in others the two can run simultaneously. But it's not for you to figure out beforehand. They must establish the nature and duration of the severance, and the claimant doesn't need to carefully calculate "when to file the claim." At the present, there are not changing quarters that would change the amount of money she would set up for for a long time. The claim will be in place for one year after it is filed, for a set amount of weeks at a set amount. So she needs to file right away.
