What is the name of your state? Iowa
I have been preparing a case against my last landlor, we're finally home owners.... yee haa with help from many of you on the board.
He wrongfully withheld our security deposit, and tried to bill us for normal wear and tear items, he then dared us to sue. So obvisously I did. We have both video of the place upon our move out as well as witnesses and audio tape of him admitting he ok'd the inspection of the place twice.
After filing the case he has filed a counter claim of $4,000, now all of a sudden his detailed letter for with-holding our deposit has gone from just enough to cover our $500 deposit to $4,000, completly bogus.
I've obtained alot of information from this board and advice on how to prepare and present this case.
With your help my preperation was so good, that after showing an attorney with the idea in mind of just getting some pointers from him, as he's familiar with the local judges and courts, I talked to said attorney again today and he basically pleaded for my permission to take the case.
Accoring to him our evidence is so strong and well prepared that it not only makes it obvious the ex LL is trying to screw us for lack of better terms, it proves it.
He's even willing to take the case based on his ability to recover attorney's fees from ex LL.
Thank you very much for the help, the talk with the attorney made me feel much better as that kind of judgement against me would have been hard to take when we did everything honestly and correctly.
Thanks for your ideas and help with my preperation go to everyone on the board....
