I live in Colorado but the problem is in Louisiana

My uncle recently passed away in Louisiana. He had disappeared from contact in 2013 and suddenly a couple, one is a police officer, contacted us claiming to be close to them had him on life support and was asking us for permissions to take him off. My mother did. They will not provide any medical records or anything and had him cremated 2 days later, before we could get to Louisiana. My uncles home had not been in any livable condition for some time obviously, and 2 weeks before we arrived a couple of people showed up telling the neighbors that they were my other deceased uncles daughter, (he had no children) and cleaned out the house. The neighbors had never heard for the two people who contacted us about my uncle and the woman listed herself as my uncles niece on paperwork which she is not. My uncle had a lot of expensive collections and weapons as well as bonds and gold. That was all gone, as well as the safe, which was open. Now they refuse to give us my uncles ashes and from neighbors reports the whole situation is incredibly fishy. I would love to have an investigation started but my main goal was to get my uncles ashes, but as I learn more i am feeling like I also need to seek answers and I really have no idea where to start... Hoping maybe I can get a direction here...

Your mother, while in Colorado, was able to give consent to have your uncle removed from life support, and your uncle was in Louisiana?

You didn’t think to call the police when you discovered someone took all of your uncle’s belongings?

There is a lot about the story you tell that is hard to understand and believe.

Well my family is a little more like children than adults and I have just now learned of all of this. I am appalled that they did nothing at all, and am looking for advice to backtrack and have something done hence finding this forum....

My mother was in Georgia when she gave consent which makes me very confused, and upset that she listed herself as a neice and now I have no idea what else this woman has been able to do without a power of attourney. I mean, how was she possibly able to without one? My mother did not look into assets, or freeze anything, she does not even know who he banked with or what his mortgage is under. Absolutely nothing was looked into or done, so I am attempting to find out what can and can't still be done.
