What is the name of your state? GA

The whold system sucks. I mean, I have 2 orders and am going on a 3rd to get xh to pay back child support and other fees owed totaling almost $20,000. CS alone is over $16,000. And what will they do? A whole lot of nothing. I call CSR. They say it will take about a year to get to him... When they do, they write a letter to ask him to start paying... ooooh. If a court order doesn't work, why would that? Then, they garnish his wages. A lot of good that does when he gets paid under the table and goes from lame job to lamer job... Then, IF he doesn't pay after a couple letters, they take away his license... whoopy-snot. Then IF he gets caught driving without it, he gets arrested.

SO, back to the original problem- when is he actually held liable for not paying cs????? What good is a court order when there is NO ONE to enforce it????? Why pay when there are obviously no consequences for not?

It may seem like there are no real consequences in the short term, but in the long term its really going to come back to haunt him. He will never be able to have a stable, long term job and make his own life good financially if he continues in this matter. He won't be getting credit for the wages that he earns so he is seriously effecting his ability to collect maximum social security benefits when he retires.

His credit is being destroyed by this (the states do report arrearages on his credit report)...he will have trouble buying a house or even a car if it requires a loan.

If he had stuck to paying his obligations then around the time your child graduated from high school and child support ends...he would suddenly have extra income at his disposal. Now, its likely that he will have this hanging over his head, and the state coming after him, for many long years after your child becomes an adult.

Believe me, he may be hurting your child now...but he is doing far more damage to himself, with far greater long term consequences for him.

Excuse me- but what is your problem??? Or do you only know how to be rude?? In case you have trouble with your reading comprehension, I was talking about how the system is failing and letting too much slide by, not anything about my kids not being taken care of by me.

I agree that the CS enforcement is so overloaded that it is a joke!

First sorry that you had to deal with that sensitive post....some people have the compassion of a knat.

Write letters:

Send an appeal for help to Washington DC Child Enforcement Director. You can look up all these addresses on the net. Sorry dont have it with me right now.

If Im not mistaken this is a felony, anthing over 5k. Start at the top of the ladder in GA, copy the appeal to the Gov, and work your way down the rung.

This was the only way I got any attention, I know my case worker was bogged down, she mentioned haveing 800 cases alone. So I feel for them but that doesnt put food on our table.

My compassion is not that of a knat...You really just get tired of hearing the child support stuff. We ALL know that there are a lot of deadbeat dads. WE ALL also know that there are other dads who are paying out their ears. The Child support system doesnt work for everyone. It truly sucks, my whole point to the thing was, if she has done all that so far, there isnt MUCH more advice anyone could give her.Noone on here has a magic wand. I have been on both sides of the fence. My ex for a very long time paid nothing for my son. He hasnt seen him since he was 3 months old, he will be 6 in 3 days. My current husband pays child support faithfully, but because its way more than half what he earns he still gets into arrears. I have to have a seperate job just to take care of our family. We also have that child most of the time. The courts are so full of child support cases that they get to them when they can. Yes, I know this doesnt put food on the table. I was simply stating that WHILE your waiting for someone to do something about making YOUR ex pay fo your children, just do it yourself. Waiting around doesnt put food on the table either. I wasnt speaking to her specifically, It was more of a statement to all the complaining mothers. We cannot make our children's fathers be a MAN. It takes the courts a bit of time to do that. That doesnt help with the here and now.I too would like something done to the child support system, but sitting here posting on this forum will do nothing. Bash me if you like, I am a mommy, I can take it. ;)

Sounds bitter to me also. Goes to show there is more importance put on supporting the ex wife than there is having a meaningful relationship with your child.

Many women think they are owed something for giving birth to a child. The truth is, your payment is the fact you can have children. That is a gift.

Otherwise, you are not owed a damn thing so get over it.

Compassion of a knat

People I was serious, some dont have the sense to come in from the storm. I understand her quest. I had to fight for child support, I wasnt making it on 50hrs a week. Not to mention no time for our family.

The truth is Im afraid I just choose a selfish man. We were married over 10yrs. Our 3 girls were young, twins 9 and the baby 7 when he ran away. He was a coward then and remains one. I figure when the girls are reach the reality of being an adult and they love him inspite of then I did my job well.

Im ticked because he is trying to avoid his arreage, and is taking me back to court. I cant afford an attorney, but I will be there.

Divorce is never pretty esp. when kids are involved. We all have our own issues. I just TG that this site is availible FREE.

Were all in the same boat,

Real Help

You have the right to go down to the courthouse yourself and file a motion for contempt. Make sure that you have his correct address. You do not have to wait around for child support enforcement to do it. Make sure that you get a certified copy of his payment history, from the clerk of courts to prove that he owes and how much and when the last time he made a payment. File it with the petition. Don't forget to keep a copy for yourself. It wouldn't hurt to get a few pictures of him at work either to take to court to prove that he is working and is capable of paying.
After you do that then go to the website www.wantedposters.com and take a look at the USA posters link. There will be a new reality tv show for deadbeat dads. But you have to post a deadbeat on the site before they will consider your story for the show.Good luck.

Thank you Tazbug

Missouri,

I reside in Texas with the courts approval through a job move. The logistics are difficult for me. Im ESLD (endstage liver disease) and on the transplant list. Before, my recent MRI I was able to travel but it appears cancer has cropped up, and if contained I will be shot to the top of list.

I called my brother for financial assistance and he has agreed to help me retain the attorney I wanted to begin with. He is well connected and is a fair man.

My plate has become so full I had to move it over to a platter! If I survive all this and still and talk...I will without doubt donate my time to legal aid even if its just sweeping floors.

Their dad, knows Im sick yet still is persuing trying to emancipate the twins, and get custody of my last child. Meaningful relationship, hog wash, he didnt even bother to call the kids for Christmas, is that love...

I hope things go well with my health long enough to see him in county orange.

LOL
