I was on my bicycle, and ran a stop sign that had no cross traffic, and got pulled over. I didn't have my license on me or anything, so he asked for my information, and I answered truthfully. He could not locate me in the database, because I gave him my everyday name, not my legal name. And after 20 minutes of searching, with a few questions, he wrote me a citation and told me to show up to court.

The citation has my DOB, physical description, phone number and address on it. However, it does not have my drivers license or social security number that would match what i've given to my real identity. So in theory, I could've been anybody who happened to know an address and a phone number. This citation is BS. I've known others who have gone through the same process, and they had to pay hefty fines that drivers have to pay, sign up for pointless defensive driving classes.

Will someone come knocking on my door if I don't show up?

Given that you provided your DOB, address, phone number, and I assume your last name ... they have plenty of information. As someone else mentioned, the "everyday name" will now be associated with your legal name on your criminal record. If you don't show up for your court date they will issue a warrant for your arrest and you could be arrested for a bike ticket. It's not worth it, especially given the charges you are facing. You will be better off going to court and convincing the court or the prosecutor to give you a favorable plea bargain. If you try to go down the path of "someone else gave my name" you could face charges for false reporting or attempting to influence a public servant. Since people try this all the time, they have ways of preventing this from happening. They will make you file a police report regarding the false ID, you will have to get fingerprinted to prove who you are, and the officer who stopped you will be involved. If the officer says you are the same person he/she stopped, you'll be caught. And you'll be charged for false reporting. I am sure you get the point by now ... totally not worth it! Hope this helps!!
