What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? New York

I have two questions about 2 separate legal cases. Both in Civil court.

1). I had a car dealer claim I owed them for the purchase of a truck in 2002.
I explained that I didn't purchase the truck, and gave them the address of the guy that did. In 2007 they filed a lawsuit against me in a different city (I had moved). I had a lawyer respond both to the car dealership and the court that I didn't owe the money and that the court would have to move the case to the city I had moved to (still in NY).
From that day to this, I have never heard another word about it. So, here it is 2012 and I am moving out of State. How long do they have to continue this case if they are going to?

2). I was named in a lawsuit for personal assests. It's a long story, but finally it was going to trial...then...suddenly the plaintiff made a bogus claim to get an delay of unspecified time. How much time does he have to do this? I am moving out of State and need to know...I doubt I will be able to return in the forseeable future because of family hardship. How long does he have to continue this case if he is going to?

Are you certain the case has not been tried and there is already a judgement?

Would be worth checking with the court clerk where the case was initially filed.

How could the 2007 case have gone to trial if I was never contacted?
Like I said...my lawyer filed both the response and request to move to the court in the new city. Never, ever heard anything back. ever. It's not on my credit report...sooo**************. Still does not answer my question...how long do they have to take action if they will? 7 years? 10..20..?

As for the current case...how long does he have to go to trial? it this going to be 20 years or what?

**A: how come you are not asking your own lawyer these questions?

Don't forget to file updated appearances with the cases ... update with new address.

Its tough cookies if you move 3000 miles away from the court with jurisdiction. You'll be traveling 3000 miles

here is a hint: get a fedex PO box and have them forward to your new address and put the fedex PO box as your new address on the appearances (they won't know you moved 3000 miles away then) ... and keep the fedex PO box fees paid.
