I'm not sure I'm in the correct forum.
Here is my question:
In the states of Texas and Kansas, or anywhere in the US for that matter,
are employers required to provide time off [I.E. on Sundays to go to church] for an employee to practice their religion?

I may be required by my employer to travel from Texas to Kansas and to work 12 hour days, 6 days a week. Those 6 days may include Sundays.
So, do they 'have' to give me time off to practice my faith?

Under Federal law, religion is a characteristic protected by law. However, that does not mean that an employer is required to roll over and give the employee whatever time he wants to have off for religious purposes. You cannot be harassed or discriminated against BECAUSE OF your religion, and your employer must make a *reasonable* accomodation for you if it does not create an undue hardship. But the accomodation must be reasonable and does not have to discommodate, if that's a word, other employees.

For example, it might be reasonable to allow you to occasionally trade shifts with other employees who are willing to do so. It would not be reasonable to excuse you from all Sunday hours, thus forcing other employees to work extra hours.
