What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state?GA

I just wanted to say thanks to you for being so helpful to us trying to maneuver the US immigration system. I am not sure how you go about finding the time to be so available, and quick and precise with your answers - but it is very appreciated. Thank you !! :)

My response:

The problem is that Lana, for some reason, refuses to give the downside to an immigrant's question. There's always a downside. By only giving you the "best scenario", Lana is also doing you a disservice. She's not telling you to keep looking over your shoulder. There's an INS officer doing his job somewhere, and he may be in your neighborhood, next.

Tell BOTH sides, Lana.

This is absolutely not true. I give a realistic picture of what the issues are and what the possible obstacles are. You give them a view that is ridiculous and makes them paranoid for no reason. Do you really not have anything better to do with your time?

My response:

Oh, really? You discuss the "obstacles"? I give them paranoia?

Okay, then you quote for me where it was in ANY of your responses that throughout Jammin's unlawful overstay, that YOU said she's subject to arrest, jail awaiting a deportation hearing, and finally, deportation. Tell me, Lana. Quote it for me!

My response:

Well, Lana?

Did you ever tell Jammin that she's subject to an INS "roundup"? Did you ever tell her that while she's waiting years for her husband to become a citizen, that she's subject deportation for her unlawful "overstay"?

Did you!!!

No, you didn't. A "Family Law" attorney - - me - - had to be the "bad guy" to tell Jammin about the other side of the coin.

Why didn't YOU, AN IMMIGRATION ATTORNEY, tell her??

My further response:

Well, that's what I thought. You have no answer to my correct assessment of your "counsel".

Lana, you're committing malpractice "by omission".

Tell the truth. Tell the whole truth, Lana!

IAAL,
the problem most people have with your responses is not their merit, but your obvious enjoyment in giving people bad news.

My response:

Irrelevant.

All because I refuse to pepper my "bad news" with things like "I'm so sorry", or "That's terrible", or any other such bullcrap that may hurt someone's sensibilities, is just too damn bad. This is especially so when it comes immigrants who skirt the law of this country - - and then they have the temerity, and audacity, to DEMAND "kindness", when they are the LAWBREAKERS? What a load of bullcrap! These people have shown their REAL way of living life, and that's to do everything they can to get around OUR laws. I have no sympathies for CRIMINALS. I want them jailed, and I want them shipped back.

Why the hell do you think there's a TEN YEAR penalty for violating our laws? Why do you think the INS exists? Why do you think there are "Deportation Hearings"?

The fact is, my responses have merit, and Lana refuses to give both sides of the legal story. Writers deserve the good and the bad. The "delivery", or what you may THINK is the "delivery", is completely irrelevant.

I don't give a crap about someone's "feelings". I care about people who care about our laws. Would you assist a rapist, a bank robber, a murderer, or a child molester? These are no more, or less, serious than an immigrant who thinks he/she can violate our laws, and get away with it.

"Feelings" aren't the law.

IAAL,

What I don't understand is with your obvious disdain and impatience with foreigners who "skirt" the law, why on earth would you ever join a forum that's purpose is to assist foreigners and the people who care about them with immigration questions and concerns? And yes, many of them have broken the law in some way, or have concerns based around the law, that is the nature of immigration. What is your interest in this site? I have seen cases while searching through the thread archives of this website where you responses have no merit other then to just hurt/criticize or attack the people who are asking questions, many of who are struggling with English as a second language. Why bother? I would appreciate it if you would never take the time to "honor" me with any response to my questions.

Yes, these people may have broken immigration rules and laws, but there is a big difference between a rapist and someone who overstayed his visa.
I can understand their motivation which is to help their families or give their children better life. That does not excuse breaking the law and should not be rewarded, but they should not be treated as common criminals. Some of them are, in fact, better people than a lot of "all-American" boys (and girls).

But that was not my point.

My point is, you don't have to sugarcoat bad news or say "I'm sorry" etc. But it's one thing to tell someone that nothing can be done and they might be deported, and another, to jump with joy and salivate in anticipation of a good show. You almost wish you were there when the ins people break down the doors and arrest them in the middle of the night! The word that comes to mind is sadistic enjoyment)))))
