What is the name of your state (only U.S. law)? MA
My fiance's daughter has Mass Health/ BMC. Her mother apparently pays NOTHING for her health insurance. Just 2 weeks ago, my fiance's place of employment recieved a court-order to have nearly $100 deducted weekly from his pay. HOW/WHY/WHAT THE... I have tried researching and still am, however I cannot find answers that are satisfactory. We have filed a mandate as, this amount weekly will require us to lose the apartment we just moved into, cancel our cell phones and such.. We are in the process of adding his daughter to our health care. What can we do? He doesn't get a great pay check anyway, I don't work and we are expecting our baby any day now- what can we do?

The reason your boyfriend is order to pay medical support is this:

When Mom applied for Mass health, she had to cooperate with child support. Since the state is covering all this child's medical expenses, the are expecting the Father of the child to help. As such, he is ordered to pay toward the cost of the health care coverage.

When a custodial parent in on any type of public assistance, the state will attempt to recoup some of the money spent from the non-custodial parent.

If things are so hard financially for you and you boyfriend, you might wish to reconsider procreating at this time. He knew he had another child out there, and should not be bringing more into the world--or adding additional obligations (You and a yet-to-be-born infant) until he can support the obligations he has.

I thought in Mass. health care was free?

Bwahahahahahaha! That's FUNNY! It may be free to those whose income (by choice, or not) meets the state guidelines... but NO, it's NOT free! Taxpayers and homeowners pay for that, along with paying for their own families. So, NO. It's. Not. Free. SOMEBODY has to pay for it! You think a doctor is just going to see a patient out of the goodness of his heart? Not. Bloody. Likely.
