Hi,
I posted a question earlier, which asked what questions should be asked to a possible attorney. Could you please look at it and give me some advice as to what I should be looking for in a competent attorney?

I was "screwed" by a former atty, who I found out later was related to the Judge in the case. The atty didn't do anything in court, and charged me a very pretty penny for sitting on her ass and doing nothing. I filed many motions on my own, because she wouldn't. I want the best attorney I can possibly find to get my child back.

But I need to ask them some questions to help determine if they are the right attorney for the job. What kind of Questions should I ask?

Thank you

My response:

This type of question really is very "subjective", and cannot, with any specificity, be answered. Not every attorney is every client's cup of tea. It all depends upon your temperment and your expectations.

You could come into my office, and all I'd have to do is listen to you for about 3 minutes, and tell whether or not it would be a good relationship.

Basically, you know what questions you want to ask, because most are obvious, and I won't waste your time. However, the most important among these questions are questions concerning "experience" with your specific type of situation. Other than the probable "objective" discussion concerning experience, the rest of your questions are going to be "subjective". One person's trash is another's treasure.

But, only you can determine for yourself if you want to be "married" to any particular attorney for the duration. You could ask all the questions you want, and the relationship could turn sour, or be the best relationship since the advent of sliced bread.

You need to talk openly, and frankly, and never hide even the worst parts of your situation. You'll need advice concerning the good as well as the bad. In order to determine whether an attorney and you can work together is when there is total openness and honesty, right from the "get go".

There really is no "formula" for your questions. There must be experience, and a "comfort zone" that is detectable, and only you can determine these attributes.

I wish I could be more specific for you, except to say that interviewing 2 to 3 attorneys would be in your best interests, and see which of those "shoes" fit.

Good luck to you.

I know it will be a difficult task, this isn't the answer I hoped for, but it'll do (for now). Hey, maybe I could hire you?

My response:

I'll take that as a rhetorical question.

Your very funny. Yes I was joking, I'm more than likely too much of a bitch, as I know what I want (just don't know how to go about getting it- hence the question). Anyways, thank you, again
