New Jersey: I was just wondering a neighbor down the block, told me the town had property behind him and he was able to get it for 1 dollar. I'm asking this because my property is considered an under size lot for my town whitch means variences are needed, the lot next to me is considered a paper road and is vacent there is only a path that is used for a cut through. I thought I would like to obtain part of this lot to help me conform to the town's average lot size, thus still leaving the path for the town patron's to use and the town would still own that portion and at the same time would get tax revenues for the portion I would assume, as a whole the lot next to me is not considered a buildable lot. what would be my chances of getting the town to make a deal thanks for your adviceWhat is the name of your state?

If it is a so called alley type of road you can allways talk to your city to see if they ever abandon alleyways and add them on to peoples property. if the land is truly city owned right now they would not be getting any property tax money on it and if you can convince manage to get them to abandon it and add it to adjacent properties then it will be producing a tax benefit to the local govt. Anyway this might be best to discuss this with a real estate atty and your city council.
