What is the name of your state? What is the name of your state? Michigan
My mother owns a condo in Michigan and the Association is always thinking up a new way to trick tenants into paying them more money. This summer they told everyone that their decks had to be restained with a specific stain by a specific company. The fee for the staining was $250.00 (which is ridiculous because one could do this on their own for soooo much cheaper) anyway, my mother contracted to have the staining done and then sent in her check. However, after the fact she received a coupon from the association for the payment of the staining, and a note that said for those who had already paid for the staining their money would be put towards association fees, and that the still had to pay the $250 for the staining of the deck. They said that the notice had come in a newsletter that my mother doesnt recall seeing, although they never mentioned this when they sent the staining mandate. I think this is completely unfair and want to know if they can do this and if there is any way for my mom to fight these double dues?
