The trustees in bankruptcy are appointed by a branch of the United States Department of Justice.

There exists as a component of the Department of Justice a subsidiary department called The United States Trustee Program. That Program was created to supervise the administration of ALL bankruptcy cases. The Program appoints the trustee, not the bankruptcy court.

And I will add that it is a license to print money!
