I hope that I post this question in the right forum. I am an independent contractor for a home health agency (providing medical services at patient's home). I am trying to collect my fee ($6000) for two months of service, but the agency closed and moved to an unknown location. there is a possibility that they may going out of business. What legal or nonlegal step should I take? where do I start? is collection agency able to help?
any help at all will be very appreciated.

If you have undisputable evidence that they owe you --- signed/accepted invoices by them, made out to their legitimate company, you might want to sell them to a collection agency at a fraction of what they are worth to you. If so, you could also go to court and get a judgement against them(if you can find them so you can serve them), and then try to collect youself. You could also sell the judgement to a collection agency. It might be difficult for you to find them if they moved without additional help.
