Relocating

Junior Member
I live in California.
My husband recently received military orders to relocate to another state. My employer informed me that I must repay my tuition expenses given to me during the past year since the policy states that if I should leave during one calendar year of receiving the tuition reimbursement, then I must pay it back. Is there any recourse I can take?

If you agreed to repay the tuition reimbursement if you leave within a calendar year, then your employer is entitled to hold you to that policy. I understand that you are not leaving by choice but I am not aware of anything in the law that says an employer has to forgive a sizeable expense (that benefits you far more than it does them) if your husband is relocated by the military. It would be nice if they did so, but they are no required to.
