I now have on my CR a utility that was never paid, several hundred dollars. It was in my name I moved in Feb. and called to have the Gas, Elect. and such turned off weeks before I left, the closing wasn't for several months and the house was pumped down to avoid any freezing or demage. OK they never shut the utilities off with several request and actually let it stay in my name even after the closing. They tell me that it is their policy not to shut off utilities in the winter due to the fact they don't want to be responcable for freezing demage. I asked from the Utilitity companies for this in writing and also as to why it wasn't changed to the new owners in a letter and by phone and never recieved an answer but they sent it to collections anyway.
How do I get this off my CR, THEY heated a house for two months in the winter with nobody in it.

I pay most of my bills online due to illness, One card Sears always recieves my payments late. I pay online a few days before and on several occasions I get in my E-Mail a statement saying this may take up to eight days to process or your account can not be found. I use the same service for most of my bills and never ever had a problem only with sears account. Is it legal for them to take that long then charge you a late fee and report it?
