UK/US divorce

Hello, I hope someone can help me with this. I want to get a divorce but am legally married in UK. It can take years to get a divorce there, and I will not be able to attain legal status in US until I marry here (I am in a long term relationship with a US citizen). Am I able to file for divorce here, even though I have over stayed my visa?
