** What is the name of your state? TEXAS **
Hi,
This about a friend of mine who just turned 17. She's going through physical, mental, and verbal abuse by her father constantly.
This has been going on for years; but today things got worse and she's thinking about running away and even suicide. Her father is an alcoholic and the word "monster" doesn't do him justice, as he is worse that a monster. He abuses her physically in the worse way possible.
She has no relatives to go to. There is no mother, as she passed away 11 years ago. There is a stepmom that witnesses all this and doesn't do anything about it. She just sides with her husband.
The only other relatives she has are her grandparents, whom she complained to about this abuse a while ago. The only thing they've done was tell the father what his daughter told them. Needless to say, he was ready for her at home for more physical abuse.
She called the cops last year, and they came to her school to talk to her. That was the only time she heard from them, as they just disapeared and didn't do anything. It's possible that they didn't believe her.
Last month, a classmate of hers told the school counslor about her and the abuse she's receiving at home. The counslor called the cops. The cops went to her home when she wasn't there and they had a talk to her father. They left and never did anything more. (My theory is that the father lied his way out it).
After the cops left, the father went to his daughter room and waited for her return. Needless to say, he smacked her several times with a phone and threatened her to send her away.
Unfortunately, there are no marks on her body. He hits her hard enough to hurt her, but not leave any marks.
I know it sounds unbeliveable that cops would treat a case like this the way they did. But please keep in mind this is taking place in a small town in Texas, where cops are more backward and stupid than the people themselves. This town is near Houston (but NOT in Houston).
I'm really not sure what to do. She's in mental and physical pain this very night.
I really love this person. I'm a 19 year old male, and since she's under 18, I can't really offer her shelter. We all know what happens next. Our picture in the newspaper under the headline "runaway teen", the cops take me "downtown", she gets sent back to her father for even more abuse.
I'm willing to do anything for her safety, including me going to jail. I just want her to be safe. Please give me any advice on what to do. She's afraid of going to the cops again, and I don't blame her. These lazy small town cops won't do more than putting her at even more risk like they did twice already.
I'd really appreciate any comments or suggestions.
