I work for a company that pays on a bracket scale, 1-6, bracket 6 being the least pay. I took a bid job for supervisor which is a bracket 3 at $12.15 per hour. The company gave me part of my raise $11.50, stating that I needed to take a supervisor class which there has not been anyone teaching the class since 2006. I have asked about this class and the rest of my raise over and over, and they just keep stalling. I've been working as a supervisor for almost 2 years now, I pay my union dues every month. Our union rep speaks very little english, but has asked for someone to speak with me about this, but I never heard from anyone. I love my job, but this is very unfair I should be getting paid like any other supervisor. Isnt this what a union suppose to protect me against if not why do I pay union dues? How can I resolve this matter?

unfair pay

Just call the union office, ok I can do that since they will not come to my job and talk to me. Can you answer a question for me, is this legal for them to do this?

Is it LEGAL?

Yes, it is legal. Nothing whatsoever in the law requires an employer to pay all supervisors the same. Nothing you have posted violates any wage and hour laws.

Is is a violation of your union contract?

We have no idea. We haven't read your union contract. Why don't you call the union office and ask them?

Unfair Pay

This union is like a company owned union and it really sucks, but if you don't join you don't work there and there is not enough jobs around here, so I'll stay where I'm at for now anyway. And it does get very irritating not having a english speaking union stewart there, it really does.
