My girlfriend was recently fired from her job( This morning). Before being fired she had her hours cut in half after having a dispute with a manager from another department. This dispute occurred after she went to HR several times with no resolution being offered. The dispute ended with her manager telling her to take the weekend off and they would all sit down for mediation on Monday. When she arrived Monday she found her hours were cut with an explanation from her manager of, " since you and Sue aren't getting along well had to cut your hours". She was fired this morning by the head manager of the facility with the explanation of "We were going to fire you as soon as we found someone to take your spot, but just go home today"..." We were going to fire you anyway because truthfully no one likes you here"... This firing seems very illegal. There are many other instances of HR ignoring complaints, as well as the companies complaint line ignoring complaints as well. I'm looking for advice on whether or not it's worth pursuing a lawsuit or not. Thank you for your time.

Ignoring the fact that you need to let your girlfriend handle this...

What about this makes you think the firing was illegal? Nothing you have written above seems to be illegal.

(If Zig doesn't mind me explaining further)

Okay. What you're not understanding (and this isn't really your fault - society as a whole thinks the same as you, unfortunately) is that her employer needs no reason or excuse to fire her, that they can fire her because they don't like her lipstick or shoe color, or that her employer can wake up on the wrong side of bed and fire her just because. They can fire her because they think she's devoid of personality, because they think she's a bit too bouncy in the morning and/or because someone just doesn't like her.

There are one or two notable exceptions to this, but your girlfriend doesn't appear to fit any of 'em (trust me, you would have mentioned it already).

This is true, but I was hoping the OP would answer, because he makes several mentions of "complaints to HR". If those complaints dealt with certain matters, then his GF *may* have a valid reason to pursue a wrongful termination claim. I doubt they dealt with those matters because the OP wouldn't have been screaming it out, but I thought I'd ask.

Yeah ... in retrospect I shouldn't feed the beast :D

HR's job is not to make everyone play nicely in the sandbox. It makes a LOT of difference what the complaints were.
