14 y/o Nephew lives with dad and stepmother in Texas and is mistreated and unhappy. Wants to live with Grandparents.
How long does he have to wait to leave home?

in most states a child can choose where he/she wants to live after the age of 12. it sounds like it would be a good idea to contact an attorney in the county your nephew lives in and see if there are any that can help.

In most states a child ‘could’ have a 'say' in where they want to live. A judge ‘may’ or ‘may not’ decide to listen to the child in the first place. Then the judge will decide during private questioning of the child, whether they are mature enough to understand the situation and the consequences of their decision.
