Can anyone answer this ? for me? I have looked under Oregon law and didnt see anything other than outstanding traffic and/or court fines that could result in a warrent..
Any help would be great

More information needed: Do you owe the debt to the city, IRS, or is it a criminal judgment you were ordered to pay? Were you ordered to appear and refused? There are many ways a warrant can be issued in connection with a debt case, but you cannot go to jail for simply not paying your bills.

In the blue bar which is above the lawyer search above this section, there are are a series of links. The seventh is seach. Use it.

If you are talking about just regular debts, such as credit cards, car loans, etc, then NO, you cannot be arrested for these, they did away with debtor's prisons many, many years ago.

However, if you are talking about trying to outrun the IRS or Government Debts, Criminal fines or those such things, then yes, they can issue a warrant for your arrest.

More info would be helpful.

In some states the terminology on a lawsuit is a "warrant in debt", but it does not mean you're about to be arrested.

I have outstanding medical bills from myself and one of my sons.. I make small monthly payments to more than one collector.. I have heard that one of our local collectors has had people arrested for not paying debts....
That really surprised me.. I have lucked out and have had no problems with the collectors I pay.. There was no way I was going to call them and ask if this was true or not. I didnt want to give them any ideas
Thank to those who responded

I would seriously question the validity of what you've 'heard'. A collector can't have you arrested for not paying a debt. However, if people were arrested, it could be they had judgments against them and then didn't appear for a debtor's exam, and then a warrant for their arrest is possible.

NO! Not usually, except in extreme cases such as unpaid child support or passing bad checks. Otherwise, it's just a civil matter.
