I have worked for the same agency for 11.5 yrs and 9 of the past years I have been required to take part in the on-call
rotation which is on a 7 day basis, (meaning we take 1 week on the rotation). Presently there are 6 of us but in yrs. past has been as few as 3. I am an non-contracted employee and am feeling that not being compensated for this is wrong. I am aware there is an exempt status in the state of Az. but I have had great difficulty in getting them clearly defined. Any direction or advise would be appreciated.

AnneC, to my understanding exempt means that the employer does not have to compensate you for that time you are on call. However, I can be wrong, and especially about Arizona's laws since I do not practice law there. The easiest way to find the answer to your question would be to ask an employment law attorney near you. You can find one at attorneypages.com.
