Unpaid "unauthorized overtime"

I suspect that the manager in charge of payroll may be subtracting hours from paychecks of many employees to help balance payroll and receive bonuses for meeting hourly labor goals. What legal process can I follow to prove this is happening and stop it from continuing? Many employees have complained about the same issue, having small portions of their time subtracted for working past their scheduled time or clocking in early, or not being paid for a shift at all.

Unless you are an attorney or there is a union and you are a union official, all you can do is keep acccurate records of your time and make sure you are paid for the time you work. Each employee needs to do the same. If there are errors they need to be addressed with the payroll department.
If there is no resolution there the employees shorted time need to file a claim with the state or federal dept of labor.

Just a note; you can be fired for working unauthorized overtime. It must be paid if worked but it is a very valid reason to terminate a person and it can disqualify them for unemployment insurance.


Also, an employer can round small portions of time when punching in early or late as long as it is done with equal fairness both ways.
